A Chinley schoolgirl has designed Buxton Mountain Rescue Team’s new logo, after the voluntary group launched a competition to mark its 50th anniversary next year.
The new emblem, by Bethany Griffiths, of Chinley Primary School, features a drawing of volunteers rescuing walkers in the hills.
She was presented with a certificate and prizes totalling £50 at the Buxton Road school on Friday. Her design will adorn the team’s collection boxes and website throughout 2014.
Team chairman Roger Bennett said: “The team launched this competition to get our next generation of members talking with their families about mountain rescue and the work freely done by so many other voluntary groups.
“The response was fantastic and I have to thank all the children for taking part and their teachers for their support. It has been a real pleasure to visit the schools to award the prizes. The standard of work was very high but Bethany was a clear and deserved winner.”
The other four finalists were Emily Sweeney and Molly Soden-Freeth, of Chinley Primary School, Keely Sweeney, of Harpur Hill Primary School, and Megan McCulloch, of Chesterfield.
