THE CLINK of tea and coffee cups will be sounding in the village of Chelmorton later this month when celebrations take place to mark Macmillan Cancer Support’s annual World’s Biggest Coffee Morning event.
The Chelmorton Institute will be the venue for a coffee morning on Friday September 30, between 9.30am and noon.
In addition to refreshments, there will be stalls selling everything from cakes and bric-a-brac to plants, books and crafts. There will also be a grand raffle, tombola and ‘surprise parcels’.
The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan Cancer Support’s biggest fundraising event. Each year they ask people across the UK - and sometimes further afield - to hold a coffee morning, where donations on the day are made to Macmillan. Last year 43,000 people signed up to hold a coffee morning, raising over £8 million.
The Chelmorton coffee morning alone raised £7,200 in 2010 - and over the past 16 years the village event has helped collect close to £40,000 for the charity.
