A BUXTON woman is organising a tasty fundraising event which she hopes will be a recipe for success for a charity close to her heart.
Claire Howarth is holding a ‘Colossal Cake Sale’ at Buxton Methodist Church on Saturday, March 24, between 1pm and 4pm, in aid of Help for Heroes, a charity which helps those wounded in Britain’s current conflicts.
Claire, of Manchester Road, has encouraged friends and local businesses to get involved by baking and donating delicious snacks – everything from cakes, biscuits and scones, to bread, meringues, chutneys and preserves – which will be on sale, along with official Help for Heroes merchandise.
She has chosen the charity as her brother Adrian Hanrahan, formerly of Buxton, has been a serving member of the armed forces with the RAF. He now works for the Ministry of Defence.
“I know some of his colleagues have been injured or killed, so Help for Heroes is something I feel very passionate about,” said Claire, who is also walking a 26-mile section of Hadrian’s Wall later in the year for the charity.
lAnyone willing to bake or donate cakes for the sale can contact Claire on 07791 256603, or take them along on the morning of the sale.
