Chapel beats Queen of Shops

Following the report this week by “Queen of Shops” Mary Portas, the retail expert and TV presenter which advocates the revival of markets, Chapel-en-le-Frith Parish Council can claim to have led the way, following West Ward councillor Nigel Bradbury asking for the improvement of Chapel’s Thursday market in July this year.

A meeting took place between Parish councillors including Cllr Bradbury and officers of High Peak Borough which controls the markets in High Peak in August, and it resulted in the Borough deciding to revive overall market activities at Buxton, Glossop, New Mills and Chapel. The report is awaited.

In the meantime, the Chapel Traders Association are looking into the possibility of holding a farmers’ market in the town.
