A DERELICT site in Buxton which was once home to the Haddon Hall Hotel could be redeveloped to create a 75-bedroom nursing home.
An application has been submitted to High Peak Borough Council for planing permission to build a three-storey care home on the London Road site, within enclosed landscaped gardens and parking for 29 vehicles.
The proposals, submitted by Castlemead Group, are for a nursing home to provide 24-hour nursing care for the elderly and people living with dementia. If approved, the new home would be operated by Porthaven Care Homes.
The Haddon Hall Hotel, a prominent building, was demolished and the site cleared last year, after being damaged by a massive fire back in February 2010.
To fit in with the street scene, the proposed development has been revised, changing from a two-storey building to three, to take into account the scale and height of the original building
It also provides more recreational space for residents.
Incorporated into the design are a number of architectural features that have been developed from the design of the original hotel.
Earlier this summer an exhibition was held outlining the proposals, which 61 people attended, 34 of whom completed the available questionnaire. All respondents stated that they supported the development.
The plans are due to go before borough council planners in September. The application is available to view online at www.highpeak.gov.uk.
