An appeal has been issued to put the community spirit and festive cheer back into Buxton this Christmas with plans for more decorations and a new winter parade.
Last year there was a backlash over the lack of decorations in the town so this year Buxton Town Team wants families, friends, business, schools and groups to get involved.
Town Team member Tina Heathcote said: “We know that last year the town didn’t look great and we wanted to improve on that this year.
“We looked into buying more decorations but it costs £600 to decorate one lamp post and that is before storage and installation costs.”
This year will be the launch of Buxton in Bloomin’ Winter project following on from the success of the summer flower competition.
Tina said: “We are not asking one group to do it all, we want everyone to take a little bit of ownership and decorate a tree or some railings to give the town that festive feeling once again.” This idea will be known as Adopt A Plot and everyone who signs up should decorate their piece of land on the morning of Saturday, December 3. In the afternoon there will be a singing and lantern procession which starts in Spring Gardens and will go up to the Market Place before dropping back down to Pavilion Gardens.
Tina said: “We want to put the magic back into Christmas. If a lot of people do a little we can make a difference.”
Closer to Christmas, the town team will be issuing how-to guides for handmade decorations to give the decorations a sense of unity.
All decorations must be removed by January 7, 2017. For more information email email@example.com.
