Buxton salutes Military Wives

Buxton businesses have rallied round to give Armed Forces heroines the Military Wives choir a special treat when they perform in the town.

Their concert at the Buxton Opera House on Sunday, October 7, was sold in a matter of days – but rather than let them go without seeing anything of the town, a plan was hatched to host a very special weekend, enabling them to give a further performance at Buxton Football Clubs’, Silverlands ground on the afternoon of Saturday, October 6.

This performance will include the ladies singing the recent number one hit “Sing”, alongside many of the towns’ primary school children.

The ladies will stay at the Palace Hotel in Buxton over the weekend where they will be guests of honour at a dinner on the Saturday evening, hosted by Edwina Currie.

Over and above the two performances, their extended stay in Buxton will enable the Military Wives to enjoy all the town has to offer, including complimentary spa and beauty treatment and a luxury gift bag for each member of the choir, courtesy of many of the town’s businesses.

The weekend is going to be a fantastic way for Buxton to show their thanks to these very deserving ladies. In order to offer the Military Wives the treatment they thoroughly deserve, M Markovitz, Lomas Distribution and Tarmac stepped forward as major sponsors.

David Hopkins, Managing Director of M Markovitz Ltd and Director of Buxton Football Club, who has been instrumental in putting the whole event together, urged the people of Derbyshire and the North West to get right behind this wonderful event.

“We are all, I’m sure, proud of our armed forces and the courage they display. Let’s make this one very special weekend where we can show our support and at the same time enjoy a really tremendous time here in Buxton.

“I’m sure the public will turn out in huge numbers at the football ground to witness a fantastic and moving performance.”

Those wishing to see the Saturday Military Wives performance will be able to purchase tickets in advance, gaining entry to the ground from midday, for the 1pm show. Those who do so will be welcome to stay for the whole afternoon and take in the football too.
