Buxton Sparkles is expecting gatecrashers at this year’s Winter Celebration and Christmas Lights Switch-on – from another planet…

Visitors to the Pavilion Gardens in Buxton on Friday November 20 are being urged keep their eyes peeled for aliens lurking in the bushes, space rockets and possibly a UFO.

The aliens have been having a little help fixing up their spacecraft at a secret workshop in the very aptly named Green Man Gallery.

Children who come on the evening can help make the aliens feel at home by dressing up in out-of-this world costumes.

And next week Sparkles will be working with pupils at Buxton Community School making aliens from willow as part of the town’s welcome for the extra-terrestrial visitors.

An ever-popular part of the Christmas lights event is the Lantern Parade, and a free lantern-making workshop for all the family will be held on Saturday November 14 at Buxton Museum and Art Gallery, on Terrace Road. Anyone wishing to take part can drop in anytime from 10am until 12.30pm or 1.30pm until 4pm. All materials are supplied.

The lantern procession itself will get underway at 6pm on November 20 in the Pavilion Gardens.

Helping switch-on the lights this year will be Kelsey Beth Crossley, of Emmerdale and The Voice fame, who’ll be appearing at the Buxton Opera House Christmas Panto.

The Grand Bazaar will also take place in a new temporary events hall on the Promenade.
