This weekend saw two Buxton AC runners take part in separate 24-hour races, with Emma Tan competing as a solo runner in ‘Insomnia 24’ while Hayden Alcock ran as part of a team of 5 at the ‘Thunder Run’.

Insomnia 24 involves running as many off-road, 10K loops around The National Forest in Leicestershire in 24 hours as possible.

Emma ran an incredible 83miles, completing over 13 circuits to finish as first Lady and fourth overall solo runner.

Alcock and his team finished as 14th male team, completing 25 laps of their 10K course around Catton Park in a total time of 21 hours, 58 minutes and 2 seconds.

Over the significantly shorter distance of five miles, Sol Clark and Jon Sewell raced in the ‘Notts 5’ on Wednesday evening.

In hot and humid conditions, Clark finished a highly respectable 14th overall in a field of 273 runners in a time of 29:37 with Sewell 54th in 32:41.

Dropping down in distance once again, five Buxton AC athletes made the short trip across to the Glossop parkrun on Saturday morning.

Ben Light had a storming run, finishing first over the 5K distance in 17:55.

Pete Bailey was next to finish in seventh place (21:29), with Alfie Bailey 12th (22:19), Richard Goff 17th (23:51) and Michael Abrahams 36th in 26:43.

Over at Marple parkrun, Shannon Booth finished as 13th female in 24:35.

After a month off to make way for the Carnival Race, the next race organised by Buxton AC, the Pavilion Gardens 5K, will take place on 13th August.

The monthly free event starts from the Bath Road end of Broadwalk; there’s no need to enter, just turn up ready to race for the 9am start.”
