Derbyshire police describe the robbery of a Buxton building society as distressing and issue CCTV of the crime.

The robbery happened at about 9am on Friday, October 7, at a branch of The Nottingham Building Society in Spring Gardens.

Detective Sergeant Chris Simcock, who is investigating the incident, said: “The man who committed this offence threatened staff and ordered them to hand over cash.

“Although no-one was physically injured, the lasting effects of such a distressing event will take some time to overcome.

“We are issuing this photo because we believe someone will recognise him, perhaps from the clothes he was wearing at the time.

“We also want people to think about where they were on that day. If they saw anything suspicious or anything that didn’t sit right, then no matter how insignificant it seemed at the time, we want to hear from them.”

A spokesperson for The Nottingham said: “We are pleased to be open again after a brief closure following this incident. Our focus remains on staff welfare, however we will of course continue to support the police with their ongoing enquiries where possible.”

The robbery suspect was white, had a Manchester accent and was wearing navy blue trainers, blue tracksuit bottoms, a bright blue t-shirt, a grey hoodie and a full-face balaclava. He was also carrying a bright blue sports bag.
