This is the face of a Buxton man who is still fighting for his life in hospital after an alleged assault in the town.

John Peacock, 53, of Bath Road, was found unconscious in the street outside the London Road Inn by paramedics and police at about 10.30pm on Saturday.

A Derbyshire police spokesman said: “He had suffered a serious head injury and was taken to hospital in Salford.

“Two Buxton men, aged 41 and 49, were arrested on suspicion of assault.

“They have been questioned and released on bail pending further enquiries.”

The spokesman added: “Officers believe the victim may have been involved in an argument with a group of men and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.”

Relatives of Mr Peacock have today contacted the Buxton Advertiser to tell of their heartbreak at what has happened and echoed the police’s witness appeal.
