Buxton in bloom, Dovedale Crescent residents celebrate their win in the 2014 competition.

Residents are being encouraged to get their green fingers at the ready and ‘think pink’, as the annual Buxton in Bloom contest opens for entries.

The competition with the aim of getting the spa town blooming returns in 2015 with a new look, featuring eight categories and the theme of ‘Buxton in the Pink’.

They include Best Private Garden, Best Wildlife or Environmental Plot (including allotments), Best Hanging Basket(s) or Planter(s), Best Community Project including Best Street, and Best Commercial/Retail or Community Garden.

There is the addition of a fun Best Flowerpot Person(s) category, along with two specifically for schools - Best School Garden and, for under-16s, the Tallest Sunflower.

Janet Miller, from organisers Buxton Town Team, said: “We have purposely changed the categories this year, with much more emphasis on the community aspect of working together.

“We have also added a fun category of Best Flowerpot Person which we hope will be very popular.”

To take part, collect an entry form from Buxton Tourist Information Centre, Buxton Museum or Buxton Library, or download one at www.buxtontownteam.org.

Complete and return it to Buxton Town Team, c/o Town Hall, Buxton, SK17 6EL, or email townteam@buxton townteam.org.

The closing date is June 26, with judging in the first week of July for all categories except the Tallest Sunflower, which will take place before the end of the summer term.
