The leader of a Buxton-based community organisation has stepped down after 15 years in the role.

Architect Paul Dinsdale retired as chairman of Buxton Civic Association on December 31. Mr Dinsdale, who is moving to France with his wife Christine, joined the association when he first moved to Buxton, and was responsible for the design of the present visitor centre at Poole’s Cavern.

In 1999 he took over from Clive Beattie as chairman and set about reforming the association, continuing the work to keep it solvent and to generate surpluses to support the maintenance and upkeep of Buxton Country Park and its 200 acres of woodland.

A spokesperson said: “He ensured that the association looked closely at all aspects of its operations... and was instrumental in gaining the interest and support of a younger generation of volunteers.”

An event to mark Mr Dinsdale’s time as chairman will be held on February 9 at Poole’s Cavern Visitor Centre from 6pm-7pm, when the association will also welcome its new chairman, Mike Monaghan. All members and well-wishers are welcome.
