Pantomime star Kelsey Beth Crossley will be the guest of honour at Buxton’s Winter Celebration & Christmas Lights Switch-On tonight (Friday) at the Pavilion Gardens.

Crossley, of Emmerdale and The Voice fame, will take time out from preparing for her role in the forthcoming Buxton Opera House pantomime Aladdin, to switch on Buxton’s Christmas lights at around 6.30pm.

The festive celebrations, which this year have an extra-terrestrial theme, will feature a glitzy lantern procession around the Gardens from 6pm, led by ‘Creeping Toad’ Gordon MacLellan and organised by Buxton Sparkles.

The fun gets underway in the Gardens at 5pm, with an opening ceremony by Town Crier Bill Weston MBE, followed by live entertainment, children’s funfair rides, a Father Christmas grotto and train rides with the sparkling Snow Queen.

A Grand Bazaar will be taking place throughout the day in a new temporary events hall on the Gardens promenade.
