Uni on top of market in awards
It's Official! The University of Derby has the best website in the higher education sector – and its Marketing department is in the top three in the country.
That's the verdict of a panel of experts who judged this year's entries for the 2008 Heist Awards for Education Marketing. Results were announced at an awards ceremony hosted by GMTV presenter Fiona Phillips last week.
It's the second year running that Derby has been shortlisted for the best Marketing Department of the Year, and this time it scooped the third-place bronze award behind overall winner Birkbeck, University of London and runner-up University of Leicester.
The University won the 'Gold' category for best website across the sector. It's easy-to-use and innovative website features a whole host of marketing and recruitment information, latest news, course information, staff and student profiles from across the institution and a range of other features including a Guide to Expertise, listing 'media-friendly' academics.
It's a tribute to the work of Web and Publications Manager Lucy Temple and her colleagues Charlotte Hancock and Sarah Liddle, with support from the Derby company Silktide, who helped redesign the website.
Silktide's managing director, Oliver Emberton, is also a Derby graduate.
The University also took the second-place silver award for best use new social media such as Facebook and conversion emails in its Penguin-themed recruitment campaign.
Derby enjoyed further success with news that Tom Warsop had been shortlisted for Young Marketeer of the Year.
Peter Allen, Director of Marketing, said: "We are delighted that the work of the Marketing Department has been recognised at a national level once again this year. We have received the most fantastic results which recognise the contribution of the whole team at the University."
