Turning heads in the interior design world
Chris Read
A PEAK District interior designer has had one of her bespoke furniture designs chosen to be exhibited at a prestigious event celebrating design excellence.
Chris Read, from Youlgreave, is an interior designer with the Dulux Design Service and has been working on her own furniture creations with expert upholsterer Ann Dyke for ten years.
But it was when Chris met internationally-renowned, award-winning textile designer Penny Seume at a trade show that the creative sparks really ignited.
The result of the partnership is ‘Vagabond Shoes’, an exclusive upholstered sofa, that has already turned many heads in the furniture and design industry.
Printed on lustrous furnishing velvet, Penny’s New York-inspired fabric design has a 50s retro feel and captures the glamorous swing era evoked by the iconic song ‘New York, New York’.
Only a limited edition of 50 will be made – each hand-crafted by the design team.
And the first ‘Vagabond Shoes’ will be exhibited at the 2013 Society of Designer Craftsmen Exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London, which runs from January 11-20.
