Top country house

CHATSWORTH has been voted the nation’s best country house in the first-ever Countryfile Magazine Awards.

The Peak District attraction beat off competition in its category from Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire and Derbyshire’s own Hardwick Hall.

The Duke of Devonshire said: “It is a great honour for us and for Chatsworth.”

Chatsworth also came third in the ‘Britain’s finest garden’ category, finishing behind Belsay in Northumberland and the eventual winner Lost Gardens of Heligan, Cornwall.
