Buxton is to become the source of a legendary household product thanks to a deal which has brought more jobs to the town.
Selden, the UK’s leading independent producer of chemical cleaning products, has acquired the Jeyes Professional brand from Jeyes Group Ltd for an undisclosed sum.
The sale sees manufacture, distribution and administration of Jeyes Professional products switching to Selden’s Buxton plant from sites in Preston and Wales.
Selden now holds the licence to the Jeyes Professional brand, including the first truly effective disinfectant – Jeyes Fluid, invented in 1877 – Parozone, Bloo and the Shades air freshener brand.
The moves enables Selden to offer a complete product package to the laundry market.
“This is a good match for our customers,” said Selden Sales Director Mark Woodhead.
“This acquisition marks a step change in the already well-respected size and flexibility of Selden’s product offer to the professional cleaning market.
“Coupled with Selden’s reputation for environmentally sound production, high quality product formulation and innovative use of online customer support technology, the Jeyes Professional Division portfolio represents additional flexibility to help end-users consolidate cleaning product supply through Selden and its distributors.”
The purchase sees ten sales and engineering staff transferring to Selden’s Buxton 140-strong workforce.
The company, which scooped FTSE Top 250 FM company MITIE’s Supplier of the Year award earlier this year, has been owned by the Woodhead family since it was founded in 1968. Selden produces 45 million litres of cleaning products a year at its 150,000 sq ft Buxton site – which is the largest and greenest manufacturing facility of its type in the UK, one producing near zero emissions thanks to advanced eco-production methods, recycling and solar energy supported production.
