Retailers of second-hand goods in Glossop and New Mills are backing a new crackdown on thieves.

Operated by Derbyshire police in conjunction with High Peak Community Safety Partnership, the initiative will see retailers signing up to a voluntary code of conduct, making it harder for thieves to unload stolen property in shops across the area.

PC Andrew Prince, from the north section policing team, said: “There are many benefits to the scheme which will see retailers recording the details of purchases, including business owners being aware of what to look for to identify stolen property and allowing the sellers to be traced.”

Shops signing-up to the scheme include Niche Market, Glossop Emporium, Gamestar and Lottie’s Loft.
