Safety first for Buxton school

TEENAGERS from Buxton Community School were among seven from across Derbyshire to make it through the county final of the 2009 Young Enterprise Innovation Awards event.

All the students had taken on the role of Company Directors and formed their own company.

They were up against companies formed by pupils from Friesland Comprehensive School in Sandiacre, Queen Elizabeth Grammar School in Ashbourne, Ockbrook School, Derby High School, Brookfield School in Chesterfield and Mount St Mary's College in Spinkhill.

Although they did not win the overall prize the students from Buxton Community School who formed the company Nymph won the IOSH Award for Best Health & Safety policy.

The overall Company Programme winner was Limelight from Friesland Comprehensive School who will now represent the county in the regional finals.

The county event, at The Riverside Conference Centre on Pride Park, was supported by the Derby and Derbyshire Economic Partnership (DDEP).
