After asking the public for suggestions on a possible name change for The Duke of York in Buxton, the owners Punch Taverns have decided to change the name to The Duke.

Partnership Development Manager Matthew Dutton said: “Whilst we received a lot of votes to keep the name the same, we also registered a lot of opinions that stated that with the new look the pub ultimately needs a new name.

“We have decided on The Duke, but we didn’t want to decide on anything too drastic as many were keen for the pub name to remain, and like local residents have pointed out, a lot of people already call it The Duke.”

Renovation work, costing £190,00 is due to start later this month.
