Broadcaster and journalist Angela Rippon visited Buxton on Friday.
The 70-year-old ambassador for the Alzheimer’s Society joined dignitaries at a ceremony to mark the official opening of Haddon Hall Care Home, exactly a year after the facility opened its doors to residents.
Specialising in dementia care, the impressive 75-bedroom facility on London Road, which is operated by Porthaven Care Home, occupies the site of the former Haddon Hall Hotel.
Miss Rippon spoke to residents and invited guests, and later unveiled a plaque to mark the official opening of the facility, assisted by Haddon Hall manager Jackie Campbell.
The special anniversary event was attended by High Peak Mayor Cllr Stewart Young and Buxton Festival Executive Director Randall Shannon, along with many other professionals and volunteers from the local and regional care sector.
There was also a buffet and refreshments laid on for the guests, residents and their relatives, who had the chance to take a tour of the home and chat to staff.
The Haddon Hall Hotel, which had previously occupied the site, had at one time been an imposing landmark building before becoming derelict. The building suffered extensive fire damage in 2010 and was later demolished.
