Ice cream firm licks the rest

Have your say

HOPE Valley Ice Cream in Hathersage and the Malt Cross pub in Nottingham have been named as two of the best hidden gems in the North of England.

The Northern Rail Hidden Gems Awards were set up to recognise the best independent businesses, along with breath-taking journeys, attractions and beauty spots across the North and provide them with the support and recognition they deserve.

Hope Valley Ice Cream, which produces and sells fresh ice cream and yogurts from its ice cream parlour in the Peak District beat off competition from shops in five other regions to be crowned Best Shop in the North.

A spokesperson said: “We’re delighted with this accolade. We strive to provide fantastic produce from our corner of the Peak District, and we hope that this award will mean more people stop by when they’re passing through the area to try our ice cream!”

The Hidden Gems campaign is aimed at driving tourism, customers and footfall to the best of the region’s ‘hidden gems,’. These include quality restaurants, shops with a personal touch, well-loved attractions, hidden beauty spots and great journeys by foot, bike, car or rail which could be missed out or overlooked by tourists.
