HS2’s £3.8bn boost to region

SENIOR business leaders have welcomed the news that the East Midlands will be connected to the UK’s High Speed Rail (HS2) network.

The preferred route of phase two goes from Birmingham northward along two branches: to Manchester Airport and Manchester; and via Toton near Nottingham, to Sheffield and Leeds.

George Cowcher, Chief Executive of the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce, said the decision had the potential to unlock economic benefits of as much as £3.8bn for the region.
