Help with exports is available

A LACK of market knowledge may be a significant factor discouraging small firms from trying to pursue recovery through exporting, according to the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber.

In a recent report, the British Chambers of Commerce identified that 67% of businesses were considering trading with Europe, but the cost of professionally compiled market reports can be prohibitive for small enterprises and start-up businesses.

Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber's head of international trade, David Hood, said: "There are many small operations for whom an outlay of even just a few hundred pounds is off-putting. However, there is help available from Europe through the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN).

"With subsidy from the European Commission we can make available, at cost, a comprehensive range of market reports on sectors worldwide. We're not seeking to make a profit so local businesses can get hold of this vital information at a fraction of the commercial going rate."

The reports are highly valued and cover a wide range of sectors in the international economy from automobiles to technology and telecommunications; food and food services to books and media stationery.

All reports offer comprehensive market analysis and guidance to meet current business needs and future growth.

Mr Hood said: "Entrepreneurs will recognise this as an excellent opportunity to get a competitive advantage in their particular markets for a relatively small investment."

EEN is delivered by the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber throughout the East Midlands. It also provides additional information on products and services in 66 countries, and can help identify business partners, increase competitiveness and ultimately support business growth.

The offer on market reports is exclusive to DNCC and is non-profit making. Contact Laura Grieve on 0115 933 0033.
