A HIGH Peak pub has plenty to cheer after winning acclaim for the quality of its beer.
The Old Hall Inn in Whitehough has won the title of Best Cask Beer Pub 2011 for the East and West Midlands region in the Great British Pub Awards.
And the pub, run by landlord Daniel Capper, will now go head-to-head with five other pubs for the national title later this year.
The awards, organised by pub industry magazine, the Publican’s Morning Advertiser, are recognised as the Oscars of the pub world.
Independent judges visited all the competing pubs to assess their cask beer, with The Old Hall Inn coming out on top.
Speaking of the award, Daniel, who gave up a job in the City to take over the pub from his parents, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled. The Old Hall Inn is a lively pub with a friendly atmosphere, but as the pub is in a hamlet we tend to rely on word of mouth for new customers. An award like this will hopefully give people the confidence to come and find us.”
The national final of the competition will be held at London’s Park Lane Hilton on September 8.
