The Royal Hotel in Hayfield is celebrating after being awarded the prestigious four stars by Visit England.

Owners Lisa Davis and Mark Miller took on the hotel on Market Street just two years ago but have transformed it into a luxury venue which impressed the Visit England mystery shopper.

Over the last two years the upstairs of the hotel has been completely redecorated and renovated with new furniture and four-poster beds.

Hotel worker Carol Percival said the couple had been aiming for four-star status and had worked very hard to achieve it.

She added: “They are thrilled to bits as they have got the result they wanted.

“The rooms look absolutely stunning, the beds are really comfortable and the four-posters make you feel like a princess for the night.”

Due to the busy Christmas period the staff at The Royal Hotel have yet to celebrate their success, but they plan to have a drink together when they can.

Ms Percival added: “I don’t think it’ll really sink in until we have put the plaque on the wall.”

Visit England’s star-ratings are determined by the services and facilities provided for guests, but also by the quality of the welcome, service and hospitality of the staff, the food and the cleanliness.

Hotels must apply to be considered for a star-rating.
