Buxton town centre is losing a High Street store, after Burton announced it would be shutting its doors this weekend.
The clothing retailer, which occupies unit 23 in The Springs shopping centre, will be selling the remnants of its stock until Saturday.
Store manager Craig Stretch spoke of his sadness of leaving the town.
He said: “I’ve been here for 14 years and store manager for nearly nine years. We’ve got a lot of loyal customers and characters.
“Obviously, in stores in a bigger town or city you don’t get to know your regulars in the same way. I’ve really enjoyed working in Buxton.”
Regular customer, Jean Southwald told the Advertiser she was sad to hear of the closure, saying: “Where are we going to go now?
“It’s the best shop for menswear in Buxton. Buxton’s changed so much over the last 20 years.
“I’ve heard it’s going to an outdoor shop, I suppose we’ll all have to take up hiking.
“I’ll be sending them a card, the staff are so nice. I’ll really miss them.”
A spokesman from Arcadia, who own the menswear chain, said: “We can confirm that the Burton Buxton store will be closing on October 26 due to the lease expiring.”
The firm did not answer any of the Advertiser’s further enquiries.
At the time of publication, The Springs shopping centre had not commented on the closure or rumours that an outdoor shop would be replacing Burton.
