£824,000 boost for county’s roads
Derbyshire’s roads are to get an £824,000 shot-in-the-arm to repair potholes.
External contractors are being brought in by Derbyshire County Council to help clear a backlog of urgent repairs caused by flooding and winter weather.
Cllr Simon Spencer, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for highways and transport, said: “People tell us good quality roads are important to them and we’ve already increased the number of our own staff out there to reduce the backlog of repairs.
“But it’s clear we need to take extra action to improve the quality of our roads.”
The authority is also hiring a specialist ‘JetPatcher’ machine, which clears existing potholes of debris and water as well as laying and compacting new asphalt.
