BUXTON’S Burbage Brass Band will compete in the National Finals in September after becoming Midlands Regional Champions.

Competing against bands from Derbyshire, Staffordshire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and Warwickshire, they were placed first following what the adjudicators described as a “very good detailed performance which captured the mood and style of the music.”

As well as the title of regional champions, the band received The People Challenge trophy and a champions banner for them to keep.

Musical Director Steve Critchlow said: “To say the band are delighted would be a massive understatement.

“Being crowned Regional Champions is a reflection of a lot of hard work by players, committee and supporters over a number of years and we are immensely proud.

“The amount of congratulatory messages received from the public, former players and other bands has been very touching.”

The band, celebrating their 150th anniversary, now have to fit the national finals into their busy calendar and raise the funds to get there.

They will next be performing a concert this Sunday, March 27, at Burbage Church, when the trophy and banner will be on display.
