COMMUNITY GROUPS and sports clubs in the High Peak are being invited to get involved in celebrations for the London Olympics.
The Olympic flame will pass through Buxton on Friday, June 29 en-route to London’s Olympic Stadium for the opening ceremony of the games on July 27.
And High Peak Borough Council are inviting community groups and sports clubs to get in on the act by staging activities, demonstrations and entertainment. By rallying to the cause, organisations will be complementing sports taster sessions in the Devonshire Dome and Pavilion Gardens plus have-a-go events being offered for adults and families.
Council leader Caitlin Bisknell said: “The torch relay is a once-in-a-lifetime event for the High Peak, and we’re determined to make the most of it as a catalyst for increased participation in sport, physical and cultural activity, and as an opportunity to generate income for the Pavilion Gardens and local businesses.”
Anyone wanting to get involved in staging or sponsoring events should call Mark Forrester, the council’s community and cultural services manager, on (01538) 395768 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
