HAYFIELD villagers will be going to the polls next weekend to select this year’s May Queen Royalty.

And locals have a bumper selection of candidates to choose from for this year’s May Queen with five girls battling it out for the role.

Voting takes place on Saturday, February 18 at the Royal Hotel, Hayfield from 10am to 4pm when there will also be a May Queen exhibition.

In the evening, there will be a children’s disco from 7pm to 9pm when the results will be announced.

Anyone over school age and living within the Hayfield boundaries is eligible to vote. A proxy vote system is also available for anyone who would like to vote but is unable to make it during the official voting day.

Anyone who would like a proxy vote should contact Zoe on 07735 094166 or 07846 772 568 to discuss the options available.

Hayfield May Queen organisers are encouraging as many locals to vote for who they would like to represent their village as possible and said: “Every vote is important and can make a difference so please support the girls and cast your vote.”

The theme for this year’s festivities is the Olympics past and present with the May Queen parade taking place on Saturday, May 19.

The girls battling it out to become Hayfield’s 2012 May Queen are: Megan Eastwood, Laura Lowe, Alexandria Howard, Josie Mann and Lucy Chapman.

The nominees for princess are Katherine Lowe and Holly Howard.

Jessica Howard is the 2012 rosebud.
