Area becoming neglected and ignored

New Mills, Hayfield and Rowarth are becoming increasingly neglected and ignored, according to town and borough councillor Lance Dowson.

He fears the area, on the edge of the East Midlands Ambulance Service region, will becoming increasingly dependent on North West Ambulance Service.

He took his concerns to Hayfield Parish Council who, like New Mills Town Council, gave their backing to calls for EMAS to look again at closing New Mills ambulance station.

Cllr Eva Hodgson said: “We need an ambulance station. It is absolutely appalling if they take it away.”

Cllr Dowson said if crews had to pick up and return their ambulance to Chesterfield it may never get to this area.

“If you are picked up by an ambulance when staff are nearing the end of their shift you might well be conveyed to Chesterfield rather than Stepping Hill.”

Cllr Dowson said he had pressed for an extra public meeting to be held in New Mills Town Hallwhich will take place on November 16, 7pm.
