Edward William Garlick, 62, lived in Buxton in the 1970s but has not been seen locally, or by his family, since 1980.

Officers believe that Mr Garlick can help an investigation into a rape in the town which was reported to the police many years after it allegedly happened.

Officers have obtained a copy of his birth certificate, which shows he was born in Preston in 1951, but there are no other records relating to him.

PC Lora Campbell said: “All our enquiries have drawn a blank. He was rumoured to have left England for Canada but Interpol have not been able to trace him either. It is possible that Mr Garlick is now living under another name which is why we are making this public appeal to find him.”
