Appeal after Whaley Bridge burglary

JEWELLERS, antiques shops and pawn brokers are being asked to keep a lookout for items of silver stolen during a burglary in Whaley Bridge.

An engraved tankard, presented to the victim in the 1990s, was among items stolen from a house in Hill Drive, Whaley Bridge, between 3pm on Saturday, June 23 and 7.30am the following morning.

The silver tankard is inscribed with the words ‘BTec students’. Two silver thimbles, silver spoons and a gold, oval shaped locket were also taken.

Officers are asking shopkeepers to ring police if someone approaches them with the silverware.

Whaley Bridge residents are being urged to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity following a rise in burglaries in the town in recent weeks.

On Wednesday, June 13, a house in Whaley Lane was broken into. The burglar made off with a laptop and digital camera.

Anyone with information about the stolen property should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
