NEW MILLS and Hayfield residents are being encouraged to be more security conscious by police who are targeting thefts from gardens and sheds as a priority.
The New Mills and Hayfield Safer Neighbourhood Policing team are stepping up patrols in the area after reports of five sheds, three garages and two outbuildings being broken into during January when items such as bicycles, motorbikes, a quad bike, food and alcohol were stolen.
There were also three thefts from gardens reported to officers during the same time when a plant pot, solar lights and a child’s scooter were taken.
The latest incident took place sometime between 5am and 5.30am on Monday, January 30 when a shed in the back garden of a house on Highfield Road, Hayfield was targeted by thieves who stole some dog food.
Police are reminding locals to keep sheds and outbuildings locked and consider installing security lighting and an alarm.
