THE rain failed to dampen the carnival spirit in Chapel-en-le-Frith, with the crowds who braved the wet weather treated to one of the best parades seen in recent years.
Chapel-en-le-Frith Carnival Committee chairperson Jeanette Saxby, speaking on behalf of the committee, said: “I would like to thank all the individuals, groups, businesses and organisations who supported Chapel Carnival last Saturday in any way.
“Despite the weather we were proud to host numerous carnival royalty from around the area, five marching bands and the highest number of group floats for a number of years.
“Everyone rallied round to produce the longest and fun-packed procession for some time. A spectacular event, Chapel folk did us proud!
“The weather did not dampen the carnival spirit and the crowning of the 2012 royalty took place on the Memorial Park followed by a queen’s arena event inside at the Town Hall.
“The input from so many people made it a truly brilliant community event. The procession, park events and competitions were all crowd-pullers and we will be donating the proceeds to local charities at a presentation evening later in the year.
“Again many thanks to all our supporters, it is very much appreciated and the response from the public has been outstanding.”
