ETHEL Hallam's family and friends thanked the Buxton Advertiser for coverage of her story.
Her daughter Louise Dowd said: "It made a huge difference. People have stopped us in the street and said they had read about our struggle in the Advertiser and asked how they could help. The people of Whaley Bridge have been a fantastic support."
Dorothy Markides, who set up the Ethel Hallam Support Group, said she wanted to thank everyone who had lobbied High Peak MP Tom Levitt, Health Secretary Patricia Hewitt and the County PCT.
She said: "Thank you all at the Advertiser. And thanks to all your readers who wrote letters in support of Ethel."
The Support Group will continue fundraising to cover the cost of Mrs Hallam's first chemotherapy and to help other people in Derbyshire suffering from mesothelioma. Call Dorothy on 01663 733490 for more information.
