HITTING the streets of the High Peak to carry out vehicle checks this weekend will be members from the Special Constabulary.
The initiative is part of a National Specials Weekend taking place on February 6 and 7.

Assistant Chief Constable Karl Smethem said: "The aim of the weekend is to highlight the very valuable contribution Specials make to the force and local communities in which they serve."

Special Constables will work with officers from the Roads Policing Unit, in various towns including Bakewell, Hope, Glossop and Buxton, checking vehicles, raising awareness of road safety issues and talking to residents about any local problems they may have, which can be passed on to Safer Neighbourhood police officers.

The Special Constabulary is made up of volunteers of all ages who give at least four hours a week, working in the community.
