A BUXTON school has become the only school in the county to receive three awards in recognition of their GCSE achievements.
St Thomas More Catholic School, a specialist science college, received the awards from the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust, the organisation which manages the government's specialist schools programme.
The awards are for achieving 60 per cent or more five+ A* to C including English and Maths, for being a school which has improved their five+ A* to C results from 2005 to 2008 by more than 10 per cent and for achieving an outstanding result in terms of value added scores.
The school is the only school in Derbyshire, and one of only 89 nationally, to achieve all three awards.
Headteacher Brendan Hickey said: "It is excellent recognition of the hard work and dedication of the pupils of St Thomas More and I wish to pay tribute to all the staff for giving these pupils the best possible chances of future success."
