Chief Superintendent Roger Flint, who has been in charge of policing in the High Peak and Derbyshire Dales for the last six years, this week took up a similar role in Chesterfield.
Superintendent Paul Rouse will become acting Chief Superintendent for the High Peak and Derbyshire Dales while a permanent replacement is found.
Prior to becoming head of the division, Chief Supt Flint worked on the division as Superintendent in c
harge of Operations.
He said: "I am extremely privileged to have worked on this division. The professionalism and commitment of my staff has been first class. We are a close knit team who work for each other and continually strive to provide a quality service to our community.
"I have watched the relationship between ourselves and partner agencies develop and grow. This teamwork has contributed significantly to the dramatic reduction in recorded crime over the past five years.
"The residents in both the High Peak and Derbyshire Dales have also played an important role in making this area one of the safest in the country. I am very grateful for their support and co-operation.
"I am now moving on to a new challenge but I leave the division in a strong and healthy position and I hope the next Chief Superintendent enjoys their time here as much as I have."
Andrew Bingham, High Peak Borough Council's Executive Councillor for Social and Community Development, said: "Roger's departure will be a great loss to the High Peak and he will be a tough act to follow.
"Roger's leadership of the Division has ensured that the High Peak has remained a relatively low crime area. I wish him well in his new post and look forward to meeting his successor and enjoying a similarly productive relationship as the one enjoyed with Roger during his time with B Division."
Mr Flint started his police career as a Beat Officer in Chesterfield town centre.
He has also previously served on C Division as an Inspector based at Chesterfield then at Staveley before being promoted to Chief Inspector at Beetwell Street.
Chief Superintendent Flint said: "I am delighted to be returning to C Division, hopefully I can bring some luck to the football club as I was the Ground Commander for all the home ties in their successful FA Cup run of 1997."
