POLICE have praised the actions of members of the public after a woman was stabbed in the shoulder in Buxton last week.
Officers praised people who helped the injured woman and detained a person involved pending the arrival of officers after the incident on Fairfield Road last Wednesday morning.
A 40-year-old Buxton woman was taken to hospital with suspected punct
ured lung injuries after the incident, which happened at around 7.35am.
Detective Chief Inspector Sam Slack said: "We are grateful for the brave actions of those who helped the victim and detained the person.
"This allowed police to quickly resolve this serious incident.
"I am satisfied that this was a one-off incident and the public should not be concerned for their safety. The safety of the public is our number one priority.
"Violent crime in the High Peak and Derbyshire Dales area reduced in 2007/2008 by 5.6 per cent."

* A 29-year-old Buxton man has appeared in court in connection with the incident.
Lee Paul Donelly, of Cliff Road, appeared at Chesterfield Magistrates Court last Thursday charged with unlawfully and maliciously wounding with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm on Cheryl Kidd.
He did not enter a plea to the charge and the case was adjourned until July 18 for trial at Derby Crown Court. Donelly was remanded in custody.
