PUPILS across the High Peak have been celebrating after receiving their GCSE results - with many schools achieving their best ever.
At Buxton's St Thomas More School, pupils, parents and staff are also celebrating their best ever results – with an outstanding 85 per cent pass rate at the Government's bench mark of five A* to C grades.

The result is much higher than the national average pass rate and will ensure the school will be amongst the highest achieving secondary schools nationwide.

Top performers at the school include Frances Hall with seven A* and three A grades, Nick Short with five A* and five A grades, Danny Ramsay with five A* and five A grades, Caroline Thornhill with five A* and four A grades and Ben Towers with three A* and six A grades.

Headteacher Kate Lamb said the results achieved by the pupils were the outcome of hard work and commitment from both the students and staff.
From year 7 onwards the year group have shown themselves to be bright, enthusiastic and really willing to learn.

She said: "As a school we are very proud of all our students and are very happy their efforts have been so positively rewarded.
"We are certain these results will enable all our pupils to take their next step in life confidently."

Buxton Community School was one of the schools celebrating top results with 25 students achieving eight or more grades A* and A grades. Tara Mycock and Joe Gregory both gained top marks with 12 A* grades each.

Sixty five pupils achieved the national target of at least three A* and A grades for gifted and talented students.

Headteacher Deb Hill, said: "It's important to us that every young person gets the grades they need to move on to the next stage of their education.

"We are delighted that 64 per cent of our students have achieved the highest marks that will enable them to start A levels in our Sixth Form.
"Although the results are excellent, a further reward for our staff is to see so many happy faces as students find out their grades.

"We are also very proud that every single student has achieved exam passes and a number of our students have secured prestigious apprenticeships in the region."

Sixty four per cent of students at New Mills School Business and Enterprise College achieved the passport five or more at C grade or above passes, continuing the school's upward trend by exceeding last year's results.

Deputy Headteacher Trevor Langston, said: "The range of qualifications gained by this year group is the widest the school has ever produced and the students have worked hard in a variety of different assessment and examination styles to gain their results.

"We have had students achieve GCSEs in four different languages alongside others successfully taking their European Computer Driving Licence.

"It's been an exciting year group and we look forward to welcoming back many of them into our Sixth Form."
