NEW HEALTH services and facilities are on the way for Buxton with local people being asked to shape the plans.
Current facilities at Cavendish Hospital, Buxton Cottage Hospital and the town's GP practices provide no room for expansion so Derbyshire County Primary Care Trust and local GPs want to redevelop services.

Consultation events will take place in di
fferent parts of the town with local people being asked to share their experiences of health services in Buxton and put forward their ideas.

No specific ideas for redevelopment have been drawn up as the aim of the consultation is to discover what facilities local people want.

Ideas will be taken into consideration and a number of options developed which residents will then have the chance to comment on later.

Tracy Allen, PCT Director with responsibility for providing current health facilities in Buxton, said: "We're really excited about this project. The current community hospitals and health centres serve their purpose, but we must look towards providing world-class services for patients in Buxton, alongside our colleagues from within the NHS, the local and county councils and the voluntary sector."

The Healthy Buxton project will be launched at Buxton's Pavilion Gardens on September 15 between 6.30pm and 8.30pm in the Octagon. Other events will take place at Hardwick Square Infant School on September 22; Harpur Hill Club on September 23; Burbage Institute on September 29; the Sure Start Centre in Fairfield on October 1 and the Pavilion Gardens Octagon on October 10. All of these events will run from 6.30pm to 8.30pm apart from the October 10 event which takes place from 1pm to 3pm.

Focus sessions targeting older people will run on October 6 at the Pavilion Gardens Octagon between 2pm and 4pm, with a mental health focus session on October 9 at the Octagon from 2pm to 4pm; a session for young adults at the University Dome on October 14 from 12pm to 2pm and a disability event on October 15 at the Pavilion Gardens Octagon from 2pm to 4pm. Consultation will last until Autumn next year with the development phase scheduled for 2010 onwards.
