Lorry death charge

A POLISH lorry driver has appeared in court following a fatal accident on the A53 at Quarnford on Wednesday.
Peter Henry Skupien, 41, of Leek, was driving a red Ford Mondeo which was in collision with an HGV vehicle. He sustained serious multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Grzegorz Barcicki, 34, from Poland, appeared before Stoke-on-Trent Magistrates on Saturday charged with causing the death of Mr Skupien by driving without due care and attention.

He was remanded in custody and was due to re-appear before magistrates this week.

The accident happened at about 3.20pm at Quarnford Lodge and resulted in the road being closed until around 10.50pm.

Staffordshire police have appealed for witnesses to the collision to contact Sgt Mark Hale on 0300 123 4455.
