ONE of the area's most traditional sporting events - Longnor Wakes Races - takes place on Thursday September 11.
Proceedings get underway at noon with the gymkhana and pony races, followed at 1.30pm by the popular harness racing and at 3.30pm by motor racing around the grass track.

There will also be a fell race and the Longnor Dream Mile fun run.
Longnor Races committee member Roy Bacon said: "Longnor Races has a very long tradition, and it has pretty much remained the same for the last 104 years.

"It is still run by a group of mostly farmers and local volunteers, and keeps its traditional roots."

Refreshments and children's entertainment will be available on the day.
The racecourse is situated half-a-mile south of the village, on the B5053 Warslow Road.

Admission is £7 for adults and £1 for under-16s, with free parking.
Programmes and race cards will be available on the gate, priced £1.
