Joyce's generations of service to Peak

A WOMAN who has charted the key moments of life for thousands of Buxton residents laid down her fountain pen last week.
Joyce Holden retired after more than 32 years as a registrar at the Buxton Registry Office.
The 65-year-old estimates she has registered thousands of births, deaths and marriages during her long service - and enjoyed every minute.
"It has reached the stage where I have been marrying babies I registered 30 years ago, as well as registering the births of children whose parents I registered," explained Joyce.
"I don't really want to go, but I think now is the right time. It has been an absolutely brilliant job, a nice district to work in and I have met some wonderful people."
Chapel-en-le-Frith registrar Janet Payne has taken over the reins at Buxton, although Joyce will remain as a Deputy Registrar for weddings.
