HIGH Peak Borough Council is urging Bonfire Night revellers to attend only registered events during this year's Guy Fawkes celebrations.
District and borough councils in Derbyshire have joined forces with Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service to encourage pubs, clubs, schools and other event organisers to get their displays registered under the voluntary regional scheme.

Organisers wh
o apply for registration to their local councils are visited by Fire and Rescue Service representatives and are offered information and advice on staging a safer event. Registered events must make sure displays are carefully planned and staged. This includes choosing the right display position, crowd control and making sure the event is properly supervised.

John Haken, Executive Member for the Environment, said: "We want Bonfire Night to be both safe and fun. Registered events mean that organisers have discussed their plans with Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service and received the relevant information and advice to help them enjoy successful celebrations."

Organisers who want an application pack to join the scheme or more information on the Bonfire Registration Scheme should contact High Peak Borough Council on 0845 129 77 77. Information on safety can also be found at www.direct.gov.uk

* In the Derbyshire Dales, bonfire or fireworks display organisers should contact Karen Carpenter, Environmental Health Officer at Derbyshire Dales District Council, on 01629 761212 for a Registration Pack. Alternatively you can download a pack from the DDDC's website at www.derbyshiredales.gov.uk.
