A MAN who twice bought shopping using a friend's cheques found himself facing a bill of over £450.
Benjamin Reddy, 20, was found guilty of fraud after he twice went into A J Stewart Newsagents in Buxton on April 11, last year, and bought goods paying with a cheque which he signed in the name of a friend who had given him the cheque book and guarantee card to use.

John Cooper, prosecuting, said when interviewed: "Reddy fully admitted the offence and said he had been caught red-handed."

However, Reddy had denied the charge stating his friend had told him there was enough money in the account to cover the cheques and he had not intended anyone to lose out.

Howard Bernstein, defending, said his client, who was not working, was currently living in Brindley Ford, Stoke-on-Trent after leaving the Buxton area following the break-up of a relationship.

Reddy was fined £100, ordered to pay £300 costs, £54 compensation and £15 victim surcharge.
