Police are appealing for information after an 82-year-old woman was targeted by distraction burglars at her Buxton home.

The incident occurred at around 7.10pm on Saturday when a man knocked at the door of the victim's Sherwood Road home.

He told her he had lost his dog and believed it had run into her back garden. She took him into the garden to search for the dog and after a few minutes, she returned to the house.

She then disturbed two men in the house, who ran off, followed by the man who claimed to have lost his dog. They made off empty-handed.

The man who knocked at the door is described as white, 5ft 6ins tall and in his mid-20s. He wore a baseball hat, a dark jacket with writing on and dark trousers.

The two men who ran from the house are also white. One is in his 30s and of large build. He wore a grey knitted jumper. The other man is in his late teens and wore a dark baseball cap and dark jacket.

Witnesses reported seeing three men getting into a dark coloured four-door car, possibly a Volkswagen Polo, further down Sherwood Road shortly after the incident.

Witnesses or anyone with information should call DC Jane Cyples on 101, quoting crime reference 14532/16. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
